Default u-connect bluetooth music streaming

Ok boys and girls,

My wife just bought a new Subaru Outback and when you are in the car and if you have a smart phone, in her case an I phone you can stream audio(music) with digital quality. It is really neat. This is done through their u-connect system obviously without any physical connection.

I have an 09 with u-connect and it appears that streaming is not a possibility.

Has anyone figured a way to do this? I have Mopar radio with Alpine 506 watts 7 speaker sound system with mp3 player. It came with the truck.

With this feature I believe to you could lose the satellite system and save a few bucks a month and be able to listen to music you like.

Any ideas?

If you figure it out let us know. I also have a 09 and all the U -connect seems to do is let you talk on the phone, but it could be me. The system in my wife's 2012 Durango is the most user friendly I have seem and has more options than you can shake a stick at.

If you want to connect an iphone and integrate into your stero controls, there is one product that works great and installed it in mine. However it want to do it without wires, I have not found it and I have been searching. Our options for our stereo is rather limited.

I used this product:

ISCH73 iPAC-CHY iPod Adapter for Chyrsler, Jeep, Dodge Vehicles iPodCarPros.com

Works with my nano and iphone 4. Sound quality excellent and been very happy.

Hope this helps.

Cheers.

Thank you that is just great. Have you used this cabeling yourself?

After having this streaming in my wife's car it is a great deal for variety of music with no real cost particularly if you have an unlimited data plan. I understand that if you stream for a constant 32 hours that 1 gig of data.

soccerloco,

Yes, that is what is installed in my truck currently. I have had it nearly since day 1 of having the truck. I have it all tucked in behind the stereo and the cable that connects to the iphone/nano come down behind everything and pops out the fold down cup holders. So when I get a place, close the cup holder, cable and nano disappear. I left the cable long so when driving I can pick it up and look at things without really taking my eyes off the road.

I can post a pic or two if you want.

Its all completely transparent and acts as a dvd player. So when you want to list to your iphone/ipod nano, just select dvd and thats it, it starts playing

My apple nano and iphone have several days worth of non-stop playing music, its great. I can remember the days of carrying cases in my trucks for tapes to listen to, then the same for CD's and now a little nano does it all with room to spare I do not stream, places I am in has very intermittent connections, the sat setup works great, but outside of that, the nano or iphone does the trick perfectly and NO additional costs.

Now if you want to do a little work and do not mind getting into the wiring harness of the truck at the radio (its a bear to install and get working right), then look at this kit:

Bluetooth Hands Free Car Kits - Parrot USA

I used to do tech work for parrot so have many of the diag tools and used many of their units. This allows for wireless streaming. However you still need to plug your ipod or iphone in to keep it charged to the other unit does that and a fraction of the cost. Just a thought.

Hope that helps.

Cheers.

Thanks for the information. If you have picutres that would be great. I am very handy at doing repairs haven't delved much into stereo systems and alike. If it is a matter of disconnecting and connecting cabling I would imagine I could do it.,

I am ordering the cable so at least i will be that far,.

Thanks,
Bill

Bill,

Give to the weekend and I will have a pic of a finished install. The ipac unit is extremely easy to install. Undo the connector on the back of the stereo and plug inline. On mine I did remove the RCA connectors since I knew I would never use them and made the install cleaner (hate when things rattle), made for a cleaner install.

Cheers.

Moribus,
Thanks again for the information. Look forward to the pics. What are the RCA connectors used for? I am looking forward to having this install as my wife and I travel at least 2 thousand miles a month in my truck. This should further enhance our fun.

Bill,

You are most welcome. The RCA are used for aux generic input. You can only one of them at a time and in my case, never planned to use them. So I used a jeweler screw driver and popped the 3 pins out of the connector and put the wires away (in case ever needed). We love it in our truck, music with no interruptions and what we want to listen too.

One word of warning, if you place you iphone is the storage compartment under the radio, it will inject noise and you will hear it on the speakers. More the iphone away and place it in the cup holder and its all crystal clear.

Cheers.
