Default HOW TO: how to clean EGR and EGR cooler

See attached pdf ....

Hope this helps others. I have found an easy way to do this for minimal down time ... I purchased a used cooler, and other egr parts on ebay that where mint, for handful of change, use them to swap out and clean the what comes off later. Nothing like having some spares at a penny on the dollars compared to the dealer.

Whenever I try to click on the links in the "cleaning" section, it links me to an Alldata site in which I have no password for. Do I need to sign-up?

Team,

In checking around on cleaning schedules, some dealers say every 65K miles and others say 35K ... The ones that say 35 also charge $1250.00 for the cleaning !

I would stick to what the manual says with the following condition ... If you drive mostly highway and pull loads, the engine and cleaning system is working as it should and 65K interval would be good. If you are doing mostly city driving and empty, your engine and cleaning system is not work as hard as it should and will have to content with more soot. You may want to think of doing sooner than later.

Stargazer,

I uploaded the pdf directly to this site. May be a possible browser issue, try a different one and see if the issue still appears. Send me a private message and I will email directly do you.

Cheers.

For those asking me in private emails, the alldata links are password protected and account not available ....

Removal of the egr cooler is a 15mm wrench on the outside bolt, a 15mm socket with 3" extension reaching into between valve cover and cooler, a 11mm deep socket to remove v-band clamp, drain coolant. remove rubber hoses, pull cooler. Its simple and sorry, no short cuts. The most time consuming part of the hole job.

Hope that helps.

Cheers.

Default 2007 6.7 egr

hello all, i just joined. i see you have alot of information that is very helpful to me. this motor is new for me and when something goes wrong i have to take it to the dealer which is getting very pricy. if the dealer states the codes read an open egr valve, can i utilize the attached pdf and remove and clean it getting a working condition egr and cooler unless something has actually broken. the dealer wants major big bucks to replace. the dealer cleaned it last summer stating the same issue under warranty but did not replace the egr valve, clean and replace. what is your thoughts, greatly appreciated.
