I also read the owners manual and unscrewed the "valve" with the hose on it and got a little bit of fuel. Screwed it back in and started the truck and covered the driveway with diesel. Loosened the valve again and retightened and this time no leak. Told the service writer at the dealership about it and he "never heard of that before."

This is an item that consumers are expected to maintain per the owners manual. Getting it too tight or not tight enough should not be an issue. It's a pretty poor design. While I was there I asked the parts guy about the new FS2 filters, they don't have them yet at their dealership but they are on order. |

They have them at geno's garage a lot cheaper then most dealerships will sell them for even with shipping. Here's the link. New Fuel Filter P/N For 07.5-10 Cummins 6.7L As for the fuel filter and draining the water the only time you need to do that is when you get the indicator on the dash. I have never seen that in almost 70,000 miles.

I don't drain my filter. After a whole lot of years in the trucking industry I have found, unless you are buying 'El Cheapo' fuel from the no name brand station down the street to save a buck, the over all quality of fuel these days is pretty good. In years past (now I am dating myself) low lying areas and wet lands would have water migration in the fuel tanks at the filling stations, but now the rules of double walled storage tanks and monitor systems have really made that problem almost unheard of, besides most check them daily and have sensors in them to idenitfy the problem before it reaches the pump nozzle. I have my filter changed every 10K any how. Knock on wood I haven't had an issue.
