Yea sometimes it takes a little bit of precoordination and time to get things done. I did mine after 12,000, wish I would have seen this post sooner. No problems finding the 5/16 screws, fuel came right out of the tube, took me about 20 and that was drinking a beer throught the steps.

Well I might have streached the time a little. Kind of like the time I convinced the Queen that an average mans pinky is 6" long.

Yes and now they raised filter prices. Bought three two months ago for 19.99 and now 49.99 because they have changed and went to just changing the element not house to.

The bastards put that filter on tighter than my bosses pocket book!

Hi everyone just joined, thanks for the write up. I noticed that when purchasing the filter you can get just the cartridge or the whole housing, has anyone replaced just the cartridge or are you replacing the whole housing as well.

Changed mine last week for the first time (11,000) used your pictorial and it worked great. Like anything the first time takes a little longer. My filter was dirty and I will follow the advise of 10,000 miles. Did that with my 96 7.3 and it was running strong at 300,000 miles with no injector or pump problems. THANKS

I just finished mine. I bought the new style Fleet Guard shell and cartridge assembly, the one that has the big Cunmins "C" on it. I also ordered an extra cartridge. Got them from Geno's Garage for $91.17 including shipping.

I did it in the afternoon, so it was too early (for me) for a beer. I tried to do it from the top and from the bottom. I got it loose from the top using a filter wrench. Man the factory had that baby on there tight. I could see there was no way it would come out through the top, too much stuff in the way. I may have gotten it out the bottom, but decided to take the wheel well and wheel off. That wasn't bad at all, just a little time consuming. I'll do it that way next time.

The old one is black, I'll change it sooner next time.

Thanks for the writeup Squid.
