Yup, the new V6 engines were the worst...Real compression gas blowers they were...What a nightmare, when the Japanese auto manufactures were chewing up market share.

Back to the original subject now. I priced out the CCV filter at my local dealer and it was $148.00!!!!!! What about cleaning?? I thought I read that there was a cleaning schedule involved at some point? Besides they stated it was on national back order too. I will check the intake tube this weekend for any residule oil, but for now the replacement idea is out. So far (Knock on a tree) I do not have any codes or drivablity issue with the truck. I hot lapped to Socorro, NM yesterday for some MSHA training and I averaged 16.9 mpg (Hand calc) over 160 miles at near or more legal hiway speeds with the AC on and Cruise set (EB too of course) and it was 100 degrees outside. I really can't complain about this truck at all out side of the $100 oil changes, lately it has been every other month, 5K is what I am running with oil samples at each one, yeah add another $23 to the oil change for that too. It is setting at 32K on th clock now.

$148.....for the filter or filter change? You can get the filter from Geno's Garage for $60 and like your air and oil filter can't be cleaned. Dodge Cummins Diesel Truck Accessories – Geno’s Garage

OK, I changed mine out...Lotsa oil but I'm not sure what that means. I am going to weight this sucker as a means of determining saturation...Squid, if you could do the same thing we will have a starting point...Garlic, I did not weight the new filter, can you do that when it comes in and give us the weight of your old one as well.
I'm going to use a cooking scale for mine....I bet you got one Garlic.
On the average, oil weights 7.56 lbs/gal....So, since Squid successfully found the saturation point...We should be able to come up with a good suggested changing point..

The weights of the two were very different...I've got 31K on my truck right now and the filter feels heavy. I'd like to kick myself for not weighing the new one...Anything you can provide will help.

And mine went to the dump about 10,000 miles ago. I'll weigh the next one which should be in about 6 months.

OK, a new filter weights 2.1 lbs...My filter @ 31000 miles weighed in at 3 lbs. leaving .9 lbs of oil...So if oil is at 7.56 lbs/gal and I had .9 lbs...then my filter had .119 gals of oil. Oil weighs .118 lbs per oz and had .9 lbs...So there was about 7.6 ozs of oil or, 1 cup. Now if we only knew the saturation point.
Gunner filter weighed out at 3.05 lbs, so he .95 lb. of oil in his filter with undetermined mileage on the filter or .126 gals of oil and 8.05 oz of oil. Slightly more than mine, Anyone else have to replace the ccv filter?? Need mileage and weight of old filter.
