Default Would like some opinions-new truck v/s keeping current rig

Everyone,

I'm comming over form CF, and am currently happier to be over here. Some of my threads got out of hand and derailed badly. I posted too much, and not always relevant things. For now, I just need a break and fresh start.

With that, I have a dilema that maybe you could help me with. My current rig:

While I like the truck, and there is nothing mechanically wrong with it, there are two things that keep me from loving it: the 68 and back seat. I want a 56 and need more room. I have no issues with how it tows.

As I see it there are 4 options open to me:

1. Keep it and upgrade it to how I want. Some serious coin would be dropped here, but would equal out with the second and third option. It's cheaper overall, but I need to live with it for a long time, and just don't know if I can (especially when my kids hit their teens in a couple of years).

2. Buy a 3500 CCLBSW version in an ST (mines a Laramie). Bigger cab and room for upgrades. An SLT Mega would be nice, but not for the extra coin. Plus, I really don't want carpet in my truck again, and there's that short bed...

3. Buy a 4500 CC. Overkill, but a 4x2 is the same price as the 3500 4x4. Bigger axle, more hauling capacity and all the other goodies that come with moving up the food chain. Downside: it will be a monster to park and drive daily (until I got a Kelderman 4 link air system back there). And, knowing me, would drop about $12,000 on a customized aluminum deck, rear air suspension and assorted uneeded odds and ends; that pushes a great deal into Longhorn territory.

4. Find a Gen 3 MC 4X4 manual. Good luck; last check there were only something like 18 nationwide. My dealer has a 6 month waiting list for them, and they usually sell before hitting the lot.

I'm sure there are others on here who wen't through this at some point. Any insights and thoughts would be very helpful in making my decision.

BTW: a thread like this is usually how everything got out of hand; sooner or later it would get sidetracked then bad stuff would happen.

Auto (68RFE ) to manual (G56) transmission. I'm sorta in the same boat, but want an auto and ditch my manual.

I couldn't log in last time to respond to the tranny question, sorry about that.

The more I think about it (dangerous for my bank account) the more I want to look at a black 3500 dually crew, 4x2, G56, minimal options. I've been thinking about what direction to take it and, to me, will be a killer build. In contact with several vendors right now to get prices on parts I want.

I want a mega cab long bed! For me that would be the ultimate and then I'd be able to haul all 5 of my Dobermans around with me, LOL..............

We wanted the MEGA too, but the short bed killed that idea. so far the cab is OK, we travel with a friend and her 2 Labs, been on some long road trips with no problems to seak of, she still talks to us. LOL. The dogs don't seem to mind because I have to pick them up to get them into the back seat.
