Default Traded in the 5.9L for a 6.7L...buyers remorse?

Traded in my 2000 2500 5.9L Sport for a 2008 2500 6.7L and after reading all the posts about the DPF, EGR etc. etc. I am not sure I did the right thing?

The 2000 was a 2500 4x4 Auto Sport with a topper and only mod was a Volant airbox.

The 2008 is a 2500 Bighorn bluetec HD Auto stock.

I was looking to upgrade to 4 doors and get a quieter diesel which it is but not getting the same kind of performance as far as MPG go. My 5.9L would get a consistent 16mpg In town driving empty and high 19 goin down the highway empty at 70. The 6.7L never gets better than around 14 driving in town and 16 on the highway.

Read a ton of posts on DPF\EGR delete confused about the best way to go?

I do very little towing if any. Pull a 2 horse trailer occassionaly thats about it.

I want to maintain as much stock parts and operation as I can. I don't need anymore power. I am looking to extend the life of the motor and increase MPG. May be pulling a camp trailer in the future...getting close to retiring.

This could be my last truck and I want to make it last.

The EGR and DPF have been completely removed off my truck , the Smarty is the S67ME but this for you will depend what is legal and illegal where you live

my exhaust now is a 5"tbe that splits off into two 4" duals , I have no warranty left so for me it was a non issue . the Smarty reprograms the ECU for a new fuel/air map and to not recognize the sensors that have been disconnected . the only item that should still be plugged in even though it does nothing is the EGR actuator motor that is tied off to the side for most but having a CNC mill I machined a cool little mount that bolts right to the intake manifold making the motor look like it is still part of something . where my EGR cooler was now is a wastegate bolting to the front and rear cooler /exhaust mounts

Thanks for the nice comment

They take me 2.5 hours to machine and have made 3 others for other forum members elsewhere , Some forums are anal about anything that looks like a sales pitch but I will post it anyways . 60.00 clams shipped . I don't advertise them just make one once in a while with a request

I only wrote the program cause no-one else sells one and I made it only for my own use . but anyways off to other subjects . If you cross the threshold and go to the dark side with all the deletes and Smarty the 6.7 is a completely different motor . your oil will not look like tar at oil changes and you will easily double the usable life of your motor

No worries that's why I built this site and have no paying sponsors.

So feel free to start a thread letting others know what you have, what it's for and how it works.

It's all about the 6.7L and those of us brave enough to own and wrench on it!
