Default Stupid dealership, G30 not done after all

now you explain to me how a service department can call you about a Recall and then when you take it in they don't swap the part out?

That's right, back in 07 right after I bought my truck the Service manager called me about having the G30 recall done which upgraded the software and changed the oxygen sensor module due to excessive sooting. Well they flashed it (I guess) but they didn't change the oxygen sensor module.

How I found this out was when I went to order one last Saturday the part number of the one I have on the truck showed there not being one either here in Kansas or St Louis where the main Parts Warehouse is located nor could I find one online. This fact bugged me all weekend and it dawned on me maybe that was the original Module and they hadn't put the new one on so I pulled up the G30 recall PDF and sure enough the Module called out was P/N CBF1G300 and the one on my truck is P/N 5094847AG. I then ran the new P/n online and found them for $29 where as they were charging me $65.95 for the obsolete 02 Module.

Now I'm a little concerned because I've been driving for 54,000 miles with a bad Module known to cause excessive sooting. When I call the Parts Manager about this he says he'll get the new one ordered and then connects me with the Service Manager that just so happens to be the same person who called me about the recall. He proceeds to tell me that the module did get changed and that the Module on my truck P/N 5094847AG is the correct 02 Module.

Now I'm mad!

A mistake is one thing but a bold face lie is another. I ask him how he explains the fact that the G30 recall calls out a P/N CBF1G300 for the new and improved Oxygen Sensor Module and you're not going to believe what came out of his mouth next.

He tells me that "that's the Kit Number not the part number of the oxygen Sensor Module and that P/N 5094847AG is the Module that comes in the kit". WTF!

Now I'm Pissed and I ask him to explain the fact that when I went a Dodge dealership online that CBF1G300 came up as a Module Oxygen Sensor and that when P/N 5094847AG was inputed it came up with nothing. Also try explaining to me how his own Parts Manager just ran CBF1G300 and it came up Module Oxygen Sensor and a boatload of them all over the country but Saturday when he ran P/N 509487AG it came up with nothing. I proceeded to explain to him the problems we're having with theses engines and as I'm doing this he cuts in and tells me He'll "give me the stupid part for free but he won't take an ass chewing!" and I tell him oh yes he will because my next call is to Chrysler and then I'm coming down there to talk to his boss, his bosses boss all the way up to the Owner and then I'm going to call the news channels about there practices so yes, "someone is going to get an ass chewing "and the guy hung up on me.

I shall keep you up to date on my progress but I'm now worried about my DPF because theses things don't last forever and I'm 5000 miles past the emissions warranty.

I have been physically thrown out of every Dodge dealer in Albuquerque for similar reasons as you have experienced. I have been in the automotive repair business for over 30 years now and I prided myself in not lying to the customer and if a repair was not needed I would not take their money. Honesty is the best policy. Unfortunatly most others it this industry do not have the same values. My 96 had all of the "Brake and steering" issues you could ever think of. I had to do all of my own research and print up bulletins (You as a customer were not actually allowed to even see them at the time) them after 2 years and bringing the turck in for service every month and having to deal with the ' No problem found' or 'that is normal for this unit' or ' the truck has so much power and weighs so much you will have to do pads and rotors every 5,000 miles' stuff I called the factory and found a trouble shooter that was supposed to be unknown and met with him to either fix the truck or go to court. New Mexico does not have a consumer friendly lemon law, it will cost you more than the original purchase to get it processed. I have worked with GM's arbitration board many times in Mass. and repaired all of the customers vehicals that were trying to get them 'lemon lawed' to the stisfaction of GM and the customer. It really was not that hrd but you need to be a pro about it and actually do the work. Yea the 96 spent 175 days in the dealer the first year for brake failure, I could not stop the truck. The replaced the steering wheel 2 times because I bent it trying to stop the truck. The second year It was in the shop 120 days, finally I repaired it myself with the part I requested be installed the 3rd time it was in. I feel your pain but have no solution for it. Too bad they don't teach ethics for dealers.

That sucks Squid! Unfortunately, I think a lot of these problems come from the top. When I had a problem I called the owner but could not talk to him. I was told he was aware of there practice. So I wrote a letter (respectful but to the point) to him about what happened and why it was a mistake. I still have not heard back, that was 2 month ago. I even emailed into a radio show here in Portland when the owner was on whining about the auto industry. I made the point that maybe the problem is not the “customers” but the lack of customer service and the high cost and low quality of there work. Business’s just do not get it sometimes.
I hope it works out for you

It's mounted on the outside of the frame in the area of the passengers door, you can't miss it. I'm going to jump on the Harley and make the 60 mile trip to get the new Module and I pray they checked the P/N before calling me and it's the right one.

(As much as I like the Nissan Titan I've really, really, missed my truck.)

All right, I just got back from the dealership and they tried to give me the 5094847ag part for $70.95 and when I said no the Service manager came up with a box that had P/N CBF1G300 on it and when he opened it up it had a Module with P/N 5094847AG in it. I looked him right in the eyes with 4 other flunkies standing there and told him "A Professional liar would have no problem swapping out parts to prove their lie. Give me my money back and I shall go order the correct part online for $29 and be done with you idiots."

I find it hard to believe that you would change the internals of a part and keep the same P/N? If you did that how would you make sure you purged your inventory of the original modules? Hmmmmm guess I'll find out when the new one gets here.

This is strange. I wonder why they changed the modules out if they are the same and why would you change the P/N of the box that holds the same P/N module? Guess I'll find out more when I get mine this week.
