rpm sweet spot
Hi All
JUST PURCHASED 2008 RAM 3500 Cummins 6.7 Can you give me some info what rpm i should be running at for best pulling and fuel economy ? owners manual does not stipulate that greatly appreciated!!!

The truth is I don't think the truck really cares like a gas engine does. The Specs for the Cummins 6.7L says she produces 350 horsepower (261 kW) at 3000 rpm and 650 lb-ft. of torque (881 N·m) at only 1500 rpm if that helps.

At 110 kph, my truck turns 1900 rpm. On the highway it seems to get the best mileage in that 1700 to 1900 range, when pulling. Unloaded the rpm/mileage band width seems a little wider, say 1500 to 2,000. But Squid is right, these things don't seem to care much. Some times if we're running late, I've towed the trailer to our camp spot at 140 kph. Just drive it and make it work. They have a great work ethic. JMHO.

My best mpg seems to be at the 1800 to 2000 rpm range. Also, the higher range keeps her running cleaner...also, IMHO
