Default Fuel Consumption - Exhaust Brake

I have a new Edge Insight, I found it interesting that my GPH is higher and the instant MPG is lower when I run the exhaust brake... My last tank was about 14MPG (Imp Gal.) around town, and I used the exhause brake all the time. This tank I'm not going to runt the brake and see if it picks up... anyone else notice any difference in mileage?

I have not actually tried this for enough miles to get good data to prove it, but think about it logically. When your e-brake engages as you slow to a stop, you are burning off speed that you paid for with fuel. So I would think that there would have to be a difference, although probably slight. Same thing for tow/haul.

The exhaust brake helps to reduce wear on your brakes and give additional stopping power which it does. They say leaving it on helps to keep the soot etc. from building up. As far as mileage, I can't say it helps to leave it on or hurts the mileage. I leave it on when in hilly mountainious curvy conditions and it is great just like it was in the big rigs I used to drive. Leaving it on in town might give a person a ticket as most towns have ordinances against the use of a compression brake but I haven't heard of anyone getting ticketed but I leave mine off in town anyway.

It really isn't a "C" brake (Trade name Jake or Jacobs brake), A Compression Brake alters the valve timing causing the engine to make that Blubbering/Barking noise that most us oldtimers enjoy so much (Esp. with large straight pipes) those are the "Engine Brakes" they are targeting, not the E Brake users. I challenge some one in a car to actually tell if you are using the E-brake in a Dodge. I leave mine on all of the time and I travel through some of those Hoitey Toitey small villages with the million + dollar homes and slow children, no problem so far and not really expecting any. I use it when I need to idle the truck for a period of time on high idle, you can hear it work, sort of a 'potato in the pipe' sound.

when the exhuast brake is ingaged the ecu has the eng in a no fuel mode, used to be closed rack on the jake brakes. basicly there is no fuel being burned, as I see it.
