Default Cummins 6.7L PDF Article

Pretty cool write up from September 2006 about the 6.7L and what makes it different from the 5.9L.

Hmm, they got the part of the turbo timer and increased fuel mileage wrong didn't they? Other than that, cool article.

It is a killer engine though and I couldn't be happier with mine.

Thanks for the post!

It is hard to believe that the 6.7L doesn't come stock with a turbo timer? Oh but I can tell you the outside temp and which way I'm traveling Whoopee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

By the way, Welcome to the site it's nice to hear from a fellow 6.7L owner. Guess there's a lot more of us then I originally thought.

Neat article. Have you seen the DVD that dodge is (Has) sent out on the emmissions systems of our 6.7's?
Interesting viewing, seems more like an infomertial on why they did what they did to keep people happy. Seems as though they are having complaints about the 6.7's from previous CTD owners trying to compair the 2. As a first time CTD owner I am very pleased with everything about this truck. some other forums seem to have a distaste for the 6.7's. I like this one better.

That's why I started this site. All I read was what a piece of crap the 6.7L was. Buy the 5.9l, blah, blah, blah so I made myself a place to post real information because this is the future of diesels and those that ran out and bought the 5.9L rather than the 6.7L are still going to find themselves running the Ultra low sulfur diesel before long like it or not. Kind of like back in the 80's when they started transitioning to unleaded it got harder and harder to find leaded for my Harley and collectors cars until it finally just dried up and I was left with carrying around lead and power booster.

Oops, there's that age thing again.

Would love to have a 6.7 but i do not tow....and most of my driving is 15-20 miles per trip...long enough to fully heat engine but am not sure this engine is for me...currently have 04 with 5.9 with 118000

Yeah, for you you'd have nothing but problems with the 6.7L unless you decided to take the long way home a couple of times a week and got out on the highway. With not towing then you have to create enough boost to clean the sliding vane on the turbo another way and the only other way to do that is to accelerate hard up an on ramp for example a couple of times a week and remember to run the Exhaust brake all the time or you'd always be getting the P2262 (Turbo) code. The other problem is you'd probably never complete a full regeneration of the Diesel Particulate Filter.

But with that said, after owning a diesel I can't ever see myself being able to go back to a gas engine again. I was driving the Queens Nissan Titan while I was troubleshooting my truck and as much as I loved the Titan and it's balls to the wall 5.6L it still ain't no Diesel so I'd make the driving change..............

Simply put:
After the truck is started, turn on (activate) the Exhaust brake.
The truck will know what to do from there. I have 30K on mine (stock still) and have no turbo or aftertrearment codes show up. The EB is turned on every time the truck is running.
With the EB on and the high idle activated (in Neutral of course) it loads the engine and presumably keep the EGT's up so it will not foul the DPF or CAT.
That is how I use mine.
