So it looks like my own stupidity caused me all my problems a couple of weeks ago. Once I went back to running the Exhaust brake full time and really getting on her once a day getting on the highway as Vis-a-vis suggested to work the sliding vane all my problems p2262 and P406 are gone. I did have to clean my O2 sensor to rid myself of the P2000 code but that was the total of 15 minutes out of my day, no biggie.
I know there are a lot of owners all over net screaming bloody murder about this engine and I guess if my first car would have had anti lock brakes and a computer controlled engine I would be too. But my first car was a 57 Ford Fairlane and my first truck was a 72 ford F-150 with 3 on the tree and a big ole 360. I am still the proud owner of a stock 56 Chevy Pickup all the way down to the oil bath air filter and a 72 Toyota Landcruiser also stock so adapting my driving style and maintenance schedules to each individual vehicle I've owned has been the rule and not the exception. I guess I could take the easy way out and throw a bunch of money at these codes and tear all the Antipollution systems off of it but I find it more fun and I'm convinced also better for the future of the world if I'll learn to adapt my driving style and maintenance schedule/procedures to the new technology because the fact is sometimes change is not just required but in fact good. (Pre G30 recall owners excluded because they really got hosed from all the soot being produced.)

I also have been a week without codes. So this weekend I'm going to put my CAI back on and take a look at the o2 sensor. I'm now up to 16.6 mpg that should go up with the CAI. still looking for a cat back set up. A lot of two lane road between here and work. And I don't drive 55, so I keep it preety cleaned out.

I am one of those people that aways seems to have a code. I have had my truck for over a year and have to go back to the dealership every two or three weeks to get issues resolved.
My truck has never gone thru an active regen sonce I have owned it. The only regen that it seems to get is every two weeks at the dealership. They either replace or clen the O2 sensors & perform a parked regen every time it goes in. It is used for towing at least once a week, and all the parameters are met for regening. I have been told by the dealer that the more you drive with the engine brake on that it might eliminate the problem but it does not. I am almost afraid to take it out on long trips which is what I bought it for, and towing my travel trailer. I work daily on Cummins in over the road trucks & some of the same issues with the EGR are occuring. However I have yet to see one that has the same problem over & over in the same truck. Other than this issue I am very happy with the engine. 2007 Dodge 3500 2000 Dodge 2500 Cummins 5.9 2005 Harley Davidson Ultra Classic |

Howdy 2step, long time Harley rider (1980) still new to diesels (42,000 miles). I'm fortunate that all my driving is on the highway (Over 100 miles a day) so she gets an opportunity to regenerate. It's been my experience by watching my Edge display that a full blown regeneration usually takes between 10 and 15 minutes at highway speeds to complete.
Dodge and Cummins really dropped the ball when they didn't put in the capability for the owner to see when regeneration starts and ends on the overhead. If they would have, owners could just extend their drive time thus saving them extra trips to the dealership for forced regenerations. The only solution is to install your own monitor. The Edge insight is easy to install (Unless you want EGT's) and shows you regeneration status which for me is almost as important as my EGT. Edge Products: Product The other thing you have to do is is work the turbo when not towing by getting on her going up an on ramp every couple of days to build boost thus cleaning off the sliding vane. It's been over 12,000 error free miles now for me so I'd say it works. Good luck and welcome to the site!

It seems that the secret is to keep the idle time to a minimum. Use fast idle if you are going to be sitting for more than a minute or two. It's (-25 to -30c) cold here now I run mine up to the top of the fast idle. I have only had the 80% full light come on once. That was a few weeks ago when I was running stop and go and idle most of the day. I also run my truck in 4th gear around town - no overdrive.
I ran from Edmonton to Cochrane 750kms return, last week on a -30c day, bad roads, slippery and blowing snow. I was in 4x4 for all but about 50kms. The truck used 77.3 litres of fuel. Granted we were not moving fast most of the way, 80 to 100 kph max and sometimes down to 60. Great fuel mileage!!! A couple of weeks ago I meantioned on here that there has been a new flash released for the 07 and 08 6.7 trucks. It addresses the soot issues by implementing small partial regens and resetting some other parameters. at this point I have elected not have it installed because I am happy with the truck's performance but it may help some other owners. |

Agree with Squid and DWRDodge6.7. You can only tell if a regen occurs by a EGT gauge and boost tells you if there is a problem with the turbo. The way you drive your truck plays a big role also. You can actually get into a perpetual regen with city type driving that will clog up everything. The truck loves towing but hates stop and go driving. Don't lug the engine and try to keep the engine rpm's over 1500 while driving. Go WOT from time to time to keep the turbo vanes clean and give the engine enough time at highway speeds to finish the regen.
