Default Back from dealer

Morning All, just a heads up. just left the dealer and I need a new turbo and DPF. They say that the truck operating at 20% wont get the system hot enough to burn clean. Really? I mean these trucks are sold to daily drivers who never pull or haul anything. But what I'm getting at is, did the turbo fail first and engine not have enough boost to operate properly or did the dpf fail, killing the turbo, or was it to little to late by the time they did the J35 recall? If the later is true, I should be O.K. now, rite? will adding a fuel additive help to lower soot deposits with this crap fuel. Oh and they say the warranty will cover the repairs like they normally don't in this situation but something failed at only 32k.Wow seems I've got a lot of questions jammed in this shot story.LOL. Thanks all.

I'd say that that both the Turbo and DPF were killed by in town driving which causes long idle periods and very little time for regeneration which cleans the DPF. You really need to get something like the Edge Insight which plugs into the OBD port and will tell you when the truck is regenerating. By having this and knowing when it occurs you can just keep driving until the process is done. If you don't, the truck will be back in the shop for both a Turbo and DPF again. Oh yeah, you also need to create boost to clean the Turbo. When not towing then you need to go to a highway on ramp and run the piss out of her, thus creating boost, thus moving the sliding vane which will clean the Turbo.

Here's some stuff you should know about to fully understand the 6.7L.

I find that using only the first 4 gears in town and having the Engine Brake on at all times keeps the emissions happy.

I started having problems w/ my truck on the way down to the Davis Mountains State park over spring break pulling my 5,000lbs travel trailer. At first I thought it was the fuel filter, so when we stopped in Big Springs Tx. overnight (@ the local Wal-Mart) I had it replace by Avis Lube. It looked pretty dirty so I thought that would solve my problems. Nothing happened till I started home @ the end of our 5 days. At first my CEL came on every time I gave it a little gas to start to climb some pretty long hills (I also knew I was having problems when a Toyota Camry hauling a U-haul trailer up same hill and passed me with no trouble at all) , had to down shift to 4th with my pedal on the floor and max out at 55mph (tow/haul was on). Then my regen filter minder came on @ 70% and would reach 90% and finally clear out. This happened several times in 5hrs. but came to a point of not clearing and going to reduced power mode. Stopped over night to let it cool down in Abilene, Tx. it started all over again and cleared again. Again went to full filter before getting into Dallas, Tx. took to to the stealership and they cleaned the EGR valve and replaced the fuel limiting valve all for free. Still under 50,000 miles but getting closer (@ 47,900 miles). I will try to take it to the Oklahoma mountains w/ my trailer an see if they really did fix everything before I hit the magic number. I total I drove 1,600 miles in 7 days. Did a lot of mountain driving w/ my exhaust brake on. So far in town I haven't had any problems as yet.

I agree with DWRDodge6.7 Keeping the engine brake on, even when not towing, will help keep the turbo nice and clean. Although it doesn't do much for fuel mileage. Have you considered a DPF delete and EGR disconnect or delete?
