Cool My observations on regen.

Hello again. Here are my observations on regen with my driving style.
I normally drive about 17 miles to work with 6 lights which I usually catch red so I don't go more than a few miles without a stop. If it is one of the long lights, I use idle up. When I get to town I do a lot of stop and go up to 35-40 mph for short distances. Total commute about 40-50 miles/day. I have never had the annunciator chime or tell me about my DPF status. Occasionally I do smell something akin to my wife's self cleaning oven even when putting around town. I suspect this is a sign of a regen but it doesn't seem to happen very often. I know how my 01 with a 6 speed manual used to smoke if I lugged it so I drive my 08 with a light foot when lugging around and if I have to I drop down into 5th to keep the soot down and try to prevent any more regens than necessary. I don't roll into the throttle until I am moving and the turbo has had a chance to spool up also to prevent making soot. Squid, I was trying to drive with the exhaust brake on all the time like my tech and good friend recommended but managed to drive my mileage down to about 13.4 mpg. Won't make that mistake again. With occasional use of the EB I got 16.5 mpg with the combined driving described above. I just had a O2 sensor failure covered under warranty. The tech cleaned the good one and replaced the sensor that failed. The 16.5 mpg was recorded this week right after the sensor service. I don't know how much that might have had to do with it but this tank is about 1 mpg better than I have seen since I bought the truck and the mileage shown on the overhead was only about .3 mpg off. I know this is long winded but hopefully it will add to our knowledge base and we can figure out what gets mileage out of these beasts and what doesn't.
