I put my probe in using some of the tips that Squid passed along. I used a vacuum as he suggested to keep the metal shards from getting into the manifold. I also magnetized the drill bit to help along.
I am running about the same in Regen Off = +/- 900 and about max of 1300 when Regen = ON
