I think most people that do their own oil changes have problems with the first one as the filter has that clear coat "stuff" sealant on it. I don't do my oil changes for a number of reasons - like no time, no garage in the cold weather, no way to get rid of used oil and I like having the paper trail with the dealer doing them. Plus I'm usually changing it every month at minimum at 10k mile intervals. My overhead usually wants me to change the oil at almost exactly 7,500 miles.
