Newbie here, sure wish I would have found this thread BEFORE i changed mine. I talked the guy doing my tranny service into letting me under the truck while it was up on the rack. No way was i going to lay on the ground. I had fuel running down my arms as it was. I have a 2007 and had the dealership change the 1st fuel filter along with doing the diff. gear oil change at the recommended interval. They were done in 25 minutes and charged me a little over $300. I figured I should probably look into doing it myself. I did buy the "new" filter / cartridge from them and have been putting this off till today. Here is my question.

How do you drain the filter before you remove it. I did open the WIF but nothing came out. I losened (spl?) it with a strap wrench and finished removing by hand as the fuel was running out when I finally had it unscrewed lost my grip, dropped it which it fell onto it's side and then got drenched.
I still smell like fuel. What's the trick guys? I will use the trick of removing the wheel well next time for sure, but still don't want fuel running all over.

I appreciate you guys helpin a old man out, and helping him keep from having to live in the barn, cus mama say's I smell...
