The rails are in direct contact with the bed and bolts to the frame, the liner (rubber mat) is cut around the rails. What is not seen, there is a 1/8" gap all the way around the rails from the rubber mat.
It took about a 1 hour to measure, make a template, test, transfer the drawing to the mat and cut it. Its made of tire material with cords internally so ened up using 3 blades to make a clean cut.

Yup same here and that is why I went for the dual pivot king pin. More flexibility without twisting the truck. Gooseneck kinda gets you that but I find them a pain vs king pin (just can not get the trucker out of me
