Simply put:
After the truck is started, turn on (activate) the Exhaust brake.
The truck will know what to do from there. I have 30K on mine (stock still) and have no turbo or aftertrearment codes show up. The EB is turned on every time the truck is running.
With the EB on and the high idle activated (in Neutral of course) it loads the engine and presumably keep the EGT's up so it will not foul the DPF or CAT.
That is how I use mine.
