I changed the filter on my 2008 4x4 last night. I did not remove the fender cover; I went through the top, side and bottom. It took about an hour. I lost some skin on my arms, but I was able to get it done. Next time, I'll remove the fender; I know it will be a lot easier. My biggest challenge was getting the old filter out; I needed three hands to get it past the steering arm. I can tell, this is going to be my favorite site to check. The pictures are Great! Great job of explaining the process.
