It's all about the rear axle. 10.5 inch ring gears on the 2500 and 11.5 inch ring gears on the 3500 and I thought I read somewhere that the 2500 with the 6.7L and manual tranny also had the 11.5 inch ring gears but I don't know if this is true. (Anyone know?)

The standard rear axle ratio is a 3.73 with a 4.10 ratio available as an option which gives an additional 2,000 pounds of towing capability. The Dodge Ram 3500 rear axles have a Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR) of 9,350 pounds and the Dodge Ram 2500 GAWR is 6000 LBS. Both the Ram 3500 and 2500 have the same GAWR of 4410 LBS for the front.
